Rui Costa Amaral has been a member of Sousa Ferreira, Borges, Amaral – Sociedade de Advogados, SP RL since 2025 and is the Partner responsible for the Insurance, Civil Liability and Litigation practice areas.
He acts, in particular, in matters relating to operational civil liability, general liability, motor liability, corporate liability, product liability, professional liability, industrial all-risks insurance, construction and assembly, trade and services, residential property, national and international transport, maritime law, pleasure craft, hunting and firearms, workplace accidents, personal accidents, life insurance, personal insurance and property damage insurance. He has extensive experience representing both private individuals and insurance companies, providing legal defence in contentious proceedings as well as throughout all extrajudicial stages of disputes.

Alongside a career as a competitive gymnast (trampolining), he completed his Law degree (pre-Bologna system, five-year programme) at the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa in 1994. In 1995, he completed the Special Training Course for Officers (Artillery) and, in the same year, joined as an Officer the Justice and Discipline Section of the Military Government of Lisbon. He was admitted to the Portuguese Bar Association in 1995 and completed his legal traineeship between 1996 and 1997.In 1997, he began his full professional practice as a lawyer, an activity he has pursued continuously to date. He also holds a postgraduate qualification in Legal Sciences, Forensic Practice and Corporate Advisory, awarded by the Faculty of Law of the Portuguese Catholic University in the academic year 1998/1999.

He was a founding partner of A. Paiva, Amaral e Associados – Sociedade de Advogados, RL, in 2011, and is currently a founding partner of Sousa Ferreira, Borges, Amaral – Sociedade de Advogados, SP RL.
